Waste Segregation Shed Supports Cleaner Vettai Perumal Kanmai

Category: Water Body Restoration

A community solid waste segregation shed now functions near the Vettai Perumal Kanmai. The facility manages garbage generated from the surrounding residential neighborhoods. Household waste is first separated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories. The biodegradable waste is converted into useful compost.

The dry, non-biodegradable portion is further sorted into 9 to 14 recyclable categories inside the 400 square foot shed. Two trained female segregation workers carry out this detailed process. The segregated materials are sold, and the income earned is shared equally among the workers and municipal sanitation staff.

This initiative prevents open dumping of garbage, reduces environmental pollution, protects wildlife and birds, and promotes sustainable living. Overall, it contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment for the community.
