The Model Ward Launching Programme was successfully conducted, under the Carbon Neutral Rajapalayam initiative, covering select wards in the first phase. The program aims at focused interventions with respect to improving sanitation, waste management, and community participation at the wards.
The launch events were held in Wards 5, 27, and 28. The events witnessed active participation from ward councillors, local residents, and officials including the Municipal Health Officer, Sanitary Officer, Sanitary Inspector, Swachh Bharat Mission Supervisor, Municipal Animator, staff from Ramco Community Services, Shrishti Waste Management Services, and AVM, SWM contractor, and sanitation workers from the municipality.
Officials stated that key interventions have already begun. Over the next three months, these three wards will be developed as Model Wards with specific targets, including achieving 90 per cent door-to-door waste collection, ensuring segregation of wet and dry waste at source, identifying and eliminating Garbage Vulnerable Points, and sustaining Information, Education and Communication activities with strong community involvement.
As part of the programme, a signature campaign was conducted, during which all participants pledged not to litter in open or public spaces, to segregate waste at source, to hand over waste only to designated Green Friends, and to take collective responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in Rajapalayam. Participants also committed to supporting efforts to transform their wards into Model Wards.
