Category: Carbon Neutrality
As part of efforts to promote Carbon Neutrality, green waste generated in P.S.K. Nagar is being systematically collected and converted into organic manure through a composting initiative at the compost yard at P.A.C. Ramasamy Raja Polytechnic College.
This project is an initiative of Ramco Community Services. Fallen tree branches and dry leaves from the locality are gathered and transported to the compost yard, where they are processed into organic manure. This approach avoids the practice of dumping or burning green waste, both of which contribute to environmental pollution.
Trees naturally absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grow. However, when dry branches and leaves are burned, the stored carbon is released back into the air in the form of carbon dioxide, adding to air pollution and climate change. Composting allows this carbon to be safely returned to the soil, helping maintain the natural carbon cycle.
The organic manure produced through this process improves soil fertility and promotes healthier plant growth. In turn, healthy plants absorb more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, contributing to the reduction of global warming.
