Built in 1928 by the Kshatriya Raja community of Rajapalayam, Periya Chavadi stands as a proud reminder of collective vision and cultural strength. Funded by community leaders and public contributions, the hall was created to promote unity among the community, host gatherings, and celebrate festivals. Even today, it remains more than just a structure – it is a living symbol of shared identity and togetherness.
Architecturally, Periya Chavadi reflects both function and tradition. This pre-independence landmark of Rajapalayam features climate-responsive traditional architecture. The raised plinth highlights its ceremonial importance, while the pillared front verandah provides shade and natural ventilation suited to the local climate. The twin domes reveal an Indo-Saracenic influence, blending traditional Indian and colonial-era design elements. Inside, a spacious central hall accommodates large gatherings, and the decorative parapet with its classic red-and-white colour theme enhances its traditional aesthetic charm.
