Community Awareness Program at Kalangaperi Village

Category: Solid Waste Management

As part of the Carbon Neutral Rajapalayam initiative, a Community Awareness Program was conducted at Kalangaperi Village recently. Held at the Kalangaperi Panchayat, the program brought together around 150 community members, including local working residents, to promote environmental sustainability, sanitation, and public health practices.

The session focused on practical and impactful themes that directly influence community well-being. Participants were educated on the importance of eliminating open defecation and maintaining personal hygiene to ensure a healthier living environment. Awareness was also created about waste segregation at source, encouraging households to adopt the twin-bin system for efficient solid waste management.

Special emphasis was placed on dengue prevention. Residents were sensitised to the dangers of stagnant water and improper waste disposal, both of which contribute to mosquito breeding. The need for collective responsibility in maintaining clean surroundings was strongly reinforced. In addition, tree planting was highlighted as a simple yet powerful step toward building a greener environment and supporting climate-friendly development.
