Pirandaikulam and Puliyankulam, located in Rajapalayam, are major water bodies that play a vital role in supporting irrigation and sustaining agriculture in the region. Pirandaikulam spans an extent of 24.43 hectares and supports irrigation across 39.68 hectares of agricultural land. Similarly, Puliyankulam covers 34.08 hectares and irrigates a larger ayacut area of 45.83 hectares.

The map above shows the extent of these water bodies and the agricultural lands supported by them. Ayacut area refers to the total extent of agricultural land that is served or irrigated by a particular water source such as a tank, lake, canal, or reservoir. In simple terms, it is the command area that receives water for cultivation from that water body.

Beyond irrigation, both tanks contribute significantly to groundwater recharge, helping improve the water table in and around Rajapalayam. Their role is crucial not only for farming but also for maintaining long-term water sustainability in the region.
