World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5. The 2025 theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” highlights the urgent challenge of plastic waste infiltrating soils, waterways, food chains, and even our bodies. The campaign calls on communities worldwide to refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink in order to combat this growing crisis and move toward sustainable living.
We at Ramco PMU for Carbon Neutral Rajapalayam believe every small step towards sustainability creates a lasting impact. On June 5, 2025, we proudly celebrated World Environment Day at Government Middle School, Thottiyapatti. The day was marked by meaningful activities that engaged young minds and reinforced the importance of environmental responsibility.
The celebration began with a drawing competition on the theme of Plastic Pollution, where 32 students from classes 2 to 8 showcased their creativity and awareness. Three outstanding participants from classes 7 and 8 were recognized for their exceptional efforts, and every class received a complimentary gift as a token of encouragement. During the prize distribution, our team also conducted a short awareness session, helping students understand the harmful impacts of plastic use and the need to adopt the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
To leave behind a living reminder of the day, five tree saplings were planted on the school campus, fostering a greener and healthier environment for future generations.
Our celebration at Thottiyapatti gave Team Ramco PMU the opportunity to spread awareness about practical steps the public can take to beat plastic pollution. The top three actions include: 1) Reducing single-use plastics by choosing reusable bags, bottles, and eco-friendly packaging; 2) Segregating and recycling properly through household-level practices like the twin-bin system, and 3) Choosing sustainable products and supporting businesses that minimize plastic in packaging and production.
By engaging with students and communities, we aim to nurture environmentally conscious habits that will strengthen our collective journey toward a cleaner, greener, and carbon-neutral future.
