We sort our emails, organize our files, separate our laundry, and even sort groceries after shopping. In this context, a disturbing and pertinent question comes to our mind. We segregate everything else, why not our waste?
We often think our waste just goes away but there is no ‘away’. Two paths lie before us: dump plastic and choke our town or recycle it and grant it a second life.
Most of us throw everything into one bin without thinking twice. But waste isn’t just ‘waste’. Every household in India is expected to segregate it into four categories, and each one is to be managed differently. The real tragedy is that people don’t know how difficult waste segregation is irrespective of their educational standards. Saving two minutes of their own time ends up costing countless hours of hard, unpleasant work for someone else.
Through a creative on-ground awareness activity, our Ramco Institute of Technology collected cardboard, plastic bottles, and other recyclable waste and segregated the collected waste for proper waste management helping the local community understand the importance of waste segregation. Proper segregation at source level leads to better recycling.
Segregation isn’t extra work. It’s the first and most essential step toward effective waste management. Let’s elevate civic responsibility and turn every household into a catalyst for change…
