Programme           : GVP Monitoring and Public Awareness Programme

Division                  : 05

Ward Nos.              : 31 & 33

Locations                : Thiruvananthapuram 4th Street & Mappillai Subbaiah Street

Monitoring Time      : 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM

A Garbage Vulnerable Point (GVP) monitoring and awareness program was conducted in Division 05, covering Ward Nos. 31 and 33—specifically Thiruvananthapuram 2nd and 3rd Streets and Mapillai Subbaiah Street.

The monitoring was carried out from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM to observe waste disposal practices and identify improper dumping during the collection period.

During this period, only five individuals visited the monitored location. However, a few instances of improper waste dumping were still observed.

The following are the key observations:

  • Students from Nadar School were observed dumping waste at the monitored site.
  • Residents from neighbouring Ward No. 33 were also seen bringing and dumping waste during the collection period.

The students and residents concerned were provided with on-the-spot awareness regarding proper waste disposal practices. The following instructions were given to them.

  • No Roadside Dumping: Avoid dumping waste at Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) or roadside locations.
  • Authorized Handover: Hand over waste exclusively to designated waste collection workers or vehicles.
  • Source Segregation: Segregate waste at the source and adhere to the SWM 2026 four-bin segregation system wherever applicable.
  • Designated Timing: Refrain from disposing of waste outside designated collection hours or at unauthorized locations.

Additionally, a gentle warning was issued to the individuals concerned against repeating improper dumping practices and the residents were asked to adhere to  the municipal waste collection system procedures.

To sum up:

The GVP monitoring programme helped identify improper waste disposal practices in the area. Immediate awareness and guidance were provided to the students and residents concerned.

Continuous monitoring, regular awareness activities, and community cooperation are recommended to prevent repeated dumping and maintain a clean and healthy environment.
