Captured recently in the soft morning light at our Ramco Community Services’ Project Management Unit & Town Planning Office campus, at Rajapalayam, this photo features the bright yellow blooms of Crotalaria, commonly known as rattlepod. Belonging to the Fabaceae family, this diverse genus includes over 700 species worldwide and is widely recognised as a butterfly-attracting flowering plant. Beyond its visual appeal, Crotalaria plays an important ecological role through its nitrogen-fixing ability, naturally enriching soil fertility and contributing to a healthier, carbon-conscious environment.
Feeding gracefully on the flowers is the Blue Tiger (Tirumala limniace), a migratory brush-footed butterfly found across South and Southeast Asia. With a wingspan of about 90-100 mm, this elegant species is known for its slow, gliding flight and seasonal movements.
Blending almost invisibly among the blossoms is the Indian Flower Mantis (Creobroter gemmatus), a remarkable flower-mimicking predator. Perfectly camouflaged, it patiently waits to ambush small insects, demonstrating nature’s delicate balance between pollinator and predator
