Braconid Wasp Cocoons in Our Nursery

Category: Carbon Neutrality

Braconid wasp cocoons was observed on Wrightia tinctoria plants grown in Ramco Nursery, Rajapalayam. These cocoons are a positive sign of nature working quietly to protect our plants.

Braconid wasps (a group of small, beneficial insects) belong to the Braconoidea family (a large family of helpful parasitic wasps). Though tiny and often unnoticed, they play an important role in keeping harmful insects under control.

The cocoons appear as small, oval, silken structures, resembling grains of rice. They are usually seen attached to or near caterpillars, similar to what is commonly observed on tomato hornworms. Gardeners often refer to them simply as parasitic wasp cocoons. Their colour is typically white or pale yellow, making them easy to spot against green leaves.
