Citywide UGSS Survey Launched to Ensure 100% Sewerage Coverage

Category: Underground Sewage System

To ensure that the Underground Sewerage System (UGSS) functions effectively, a focused, citizen-centric survey was launched to collect detailed information on sewerage connections across the city. Covering residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, the survey aimed to assess whether UGSS connections exist and if they are properly and efficiently established.

The survey was flagged off on 19 March 2025 in the presence of the Ward Councillor, Ramco Community Services team, and officials from the Rajapalayam Municipality. It was conducted using the digital data-collection platform EpiCollect, ensuring accuracy and speed. A follow-up survey was also carried out in June at targeted buildings for the cost estimation for the improvement of UGSS connections.

In total, the surveys covered nearly 30,000 buildings across the city. The findings helped planners identify buildings without UGSS connections and those with faulty connections. The ultimate objective is to achieve 100% UGSS coverage and ensure that all connections comply with the project’s design and technical standards.

The initiative was designed and overseen by over 40 qualified engineers from the Rajapalayam Municipality, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), Eco Protection, Ramco Institute of Technology, and Ramco Community Services—the Project Management Unit of Carbon Neutral Rajapalayam. The survey was further supported by more than 150 student volunteers from Ramco Group’s educational institutions and Rajapalayam Rajus College, reflecting strong community participation in strengthening urban infrastructure.
