Republic Day Initiative Promotes Clean and Green Schools in Rajapalayam

Category: Solid Waste Management

As part of the Republic Day celebrations, Solid Waste Management (SWM) Awareness and Hygiene Programmes were organised on 23 January 2026 in select schools under the Rajapalayam Municipality. The initiative aimed to instill good hygiene habits, promote responsible waste management, and encourage students to maintain clean and healthy school environments.

The programme was conducted at Municipal Middle School (Ward No. 10), where 231 students and 11 teachers participated, and at P.S. Angayaraja Middle School (Ward No. 35), with 52 students and 5 teachers taking part. Students were guided on daily cleanliness practices, personal hygiene, and their important role in effective solid waste management.

A practical waste segregation demonstration formed the highlight of the session. Students enthusiastically identified different waste items and placed them in the correct bins – Green (Wet Waste), Blue (Dry Waste), and Red (Reject Waste). This hands-on activity strengthened their understanding of segregation at source.

The event concluded on a vibrant note with an awareness-themed dance promoting cleanliness and environmental protection. Gifts were distributed to encourage continued participation, and all students, teachers, and staff collectively took a pledge to follow hygiene and waste segregation practices every day.
