Ramco Nursery in Rajapalayam houses more than 125 species of native and rare plants, including evergreen and drought-resistant trees, cactus varieties, ferns, shrubs, creepers, climbers, herbal plants, ornamental species, and flowering plants.
Established with the objective of protecting indigenous biodiversity, the nursery focuses on conserving rare flora species through large-scale propagation and free distribution of saplings. It has been actively identifying, germinating, and nurturing rare native tree species and supplying them to government departments, local bodies, industries, and non-governmental organisations for planting in public spaces, forests, and water bodies.
Over the past five years, the nursery has supplied hundreds of saplings free of cost to several organisations and public agencies, including the transport department and local civic bodies, helping strengthen green cover and ecological restoration efforts in the region.
Apart from supporting external agencies, the nursery also plays a crucial role in the environmental initiatives undertaken by Ramco Community Services. Saplings raised at the nursery are extensively used in projects related to water body restoration, afforestation, and eco-park development.
The nursery is equipped with greenhouse and ‘shade house’ facilities that help ensure healthy germination and growth of delicate species. A dedicated team of young agriculture and forestry professionals manages the operations, combining scientific methods with conservation-driven practices.
