As part of its efforts to promote environmental awareness among schoolchildren, Ramco Community Services conducted an awareness programme at S.P. Kandham Primary School, located at Lakshmiyapuram 2nd Street (Ward No. 38). The programme educated students and teachers on environmental protection, waste management, and their role in building a clean and sustainable community.
The session highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the school and the surrounding neighbourhood. Participants were encouraged to use dustbins at all times and avoid littering in public places. They were also introduced to the concept of waste segregation and learnt how to separate wet, dry, and sanitary waste for proper disposal.
The programme emphasised the need to reduce the use of single-use plastics by adopting reusable water bottles and cloth bags. Students were also educated about the harmful effects of burning waste and were encouraged to conserve water and electricity as simple yet effective ways of protecting the environment.
The resource persons further stressed the importance of planting and nurturing trees to create greener neighbourhoods and improve environmental health. Students were encouraged to actively participate in school and community cleanliness drives and to motivate their families and friends to maintain clean surroundings and practise responsible waste management.
