Arboretum Plantation at Sanjeevi Malai Eco Park

Category: Eco Park

An arboretum is a specially planned area where different species of trees are systematically planted, maintained, identified and studied for educational, conservation and scientific purposes. At Sanjeevi Malai Eco Park, an arboretum is being developed using the group plantation method, with five saplings of each species planted together.

The plantation comprises 40 native, rare and locally suitable tree species, with a total of 615 healthy saplings raised at the nursery. Saplings within each group are planted at a spacing of 2 metres, while 6 metres is maintained between groups.

Regular post-plantation care, including watering, mulching, weeding, soil loosening and monitoring, is being undertaken to ensure the healthy establishment and growth of the saplings. The arboretum will serve as a living collection of tree species and support environmental education, biodiversity conservation and awareness.
