Around 100 students from four schools in Rajapalayam participated in an inter-school drawing competition recently organised by Ramco Community Services (RCS) in association with Shrishti Environment and Livelihood Foundation to mark World Paper Bag Day 2026, which falls on July 12.
The competition encouraged students to creatively promote the message “Choose Cloth Bag, Choose Earth”, highlighting the need to replace single-use plastic bags with reusable cloth bags. The objective of the campaign was to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic bags and to encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as paper bags. RCS chose to promote cloth bags, which were widely used until a few decades ago and are considered a sustainable and reusable alternative.
Students of Classes VI to XII from AKDR Boys Higher Secondary School, PACM Ammaniammal Girls Higher Secondary School, PACR Boys Higher Secondary School, and Nadar Higher Secondary School took part in the event. Through their drawings, students highlighted environmental conservation, plastic-free living, and the importance of choosing reusable cloth bags.
The competition formed part of the broader Carbon Neutral Rajapalayam initiative, which seeks to engage students and the community in adopting sustainable practices and reducing the environmental impact of plastic waste.
