Shrishti Environment and Livelihood Foundation (SELF), in association with Ramco Community Services, organised a No Plastic awareness programme during the 80th Independence Day celebrations at Sri Rao Bahadur A.K.D.R. Boys’ Higher Secondary School.
Around 300 students took part in the programme, which sought to promote environmentally responsible alternatives to plastic. The highlight of the initiative was the free distribution of seed flags by SELF volunteers to all the students. Made of recyclable paper and designed to be pinned to shirts, the flags contain seeds of various flowering plants.
After the Independence Day celebrations, students can bury the flags in the soil at their homes and water them. Within a few days, the seeds are expected to germinate, allowing the flags to grow into flowering plants. The initiative combined the spirit of Independence Day with a message of environmental responsibility, encouraging students to reduce the use of plastic and adopt sustainable alternatives.
