‘Wild Tamil Nadu’ Documentary Screened at Ramco Institute of Technology

Category: Culture

The hour-long documentary Wild Tamil Nadu was screened at the Ramco Institute of Technology, drawing an audience of around 70 local residents and students for a special viewing that celebrated the State’s rich natural heritage.

The film offers a visually compelling journey through Tamil Nadu’s diverse ecosystems, bringing to life landscapes that range from rainforests and coral reefs to arid zones. Inspired by ancient Sangam literature, it explores the five classical landscapes, Kurinji (mountains), Mullai (forests), Marutham (croplands), Palai (arid regions), and Neithal (coasts), showcasing the intricate balance of nature across the region.

From iconic wildlife such as elephants and leopards to lesser-known species like fireflies, lion-tailed macaques, and the elusive Madras hedgehog, the documentary highlights both the grandeur and subtlety of the State’s biodiversity, while underscoring the need for conservation.

The screening aimed to raise awareness among local communities about the importance of protecting natural ecosystems and preserving wildlife.

The film is produced by Arathi Krishna, an industrialist, and directed by Kalyan Varma, an Emmy-nominated filmmaker. The screening was well received, with viewers appreciating both the visual storytelling and the film’s message on conservation, making it a meaningful initiative to connect people with the natural wealth of Tamil Nadu.
