A special Tai Chi session was introduced this week for the counsellors of Ātmaprasāra, with regular monthly sessions now planned at the centre as part of its holistic well-being initiatives.
The training session was conducted by Ms. Gopica, an experienced Tai Chi practitioner, and focused on helping counsellors reconnect with both body and mind after intensive counselling sessions. The practice was designed to offer a calming space where accumulated stress, scattered energy, or emotional heaviness could be gently regulated through mindful movement and breath.
Organisers noted that regular Tai Chi practice can support emotional balance, reduce stress, and assist in easing mild depression over time, creating a greater sense of clarity, steadiness, and inner lightness.
The programme also highlighted how counsellors can integrate simple Tai Chi-based movements into their therapeutic work with clients. Gentle movement practices may help individuals shift from emotionally stuck states, release physical tension, and gradually re-engage with daily life in healthier ways. The discipline encourages participants to pause, observe, and respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively.
In addition, counsellors were guided in using posture awareness and mindful presence during client interactions. Tai Chi postures that open the chest and align the spine were introduced as tools to help practitioners sit and stand with greater confidence, calmness, and grounded presence. Through this initiative, the counsellors of Ātmaprasāra are not only nurturing their own well-being but also discovering new holistic methods to support the healing and growth of those they serve.
