An extensive door-to-door awareness programme was carried out by Ramco Community Services in association with Rajapalayam Municipality and solid waste management agencies, across the Rajapalayam Local Planning Area (LPA), covering 42 municipal wards and 12 village panchayats in March as part of efforts to promote sustainable waste management and advance the vision of a carbon-neutral city.
A total of 187 awareness drives were conducted, directly reaching 8,757 residents at the household level. The initiative focused on personalised engagement with communities to encourage better understanding and lasting behavioural change.
During the visits, residents were sensitised to key aspects of environmental responsibility, including the importance of the carbon neutral initiative, the practice of twin-bin segregation for wet and dry waste at source, and the need for proper handover of waste to authorised collection vehicles. Awareness was also created on reducing Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) and maintaining sanitation through basic understanding of the Underground Sewerage System (UGSS).
The campaign enabled closer interaction between field teams and households, helping reinforce responsible waste disposal habits and improving segregation practices. It also contributed to reducing instances of open dumping in several parts of the region.
