Ramco Nursery nurtures Desert Teak (Tecomella undulata), a medium-sized evergreen tree species valued for its durable timber, environmental benefits and ornamental beauty. The photograph shows Desert Teak seedlings being raised in soil-filled a nursery tray.

Native to arid and semi-arid regions, Desert Teak is well adapted to hot climates, drought conditions and sandy soils. The species bears simple, thick and leathery leaves that are generally narrow and elongated in shape.

During spring, the tree produces attractive orange, red or yellow bell-shaped flowers that attract bees and other pollinators. It also bears long, slender capsules containing numerous light, winged seeds that are naturally dispersed by wind.

At the nursery, mature fruits are collected from healthy mother trees and the seeds are extracted, cleaned and sown under carefully managed conditions. The seeds generally germinate within a few weeks under favourable conditions, after which healthy seedlings are transplanted into polybags or directly to the field after attaining sufficient growth.

Proper nursery management, including well-drained growing media and regular watering, helps ensure good germination and healthy seedling development.
