In observance of World Day Against Child Labour, Shrishti Environment and Livelihood Foundation conducted awareness programmes in schools to educate children and their parents about the rights of children, the importance of education, and the need to eradicate child labour.
The programme highlighted the four fundamental rights of children: Right to Survival, Right to Development, Right to Protection, and Right to Participation. Resource persons explained these rights in detail and emphasised that every child deserves a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that supports their growth and well-being.
A key focus of the programme was the importance of ensuring that children attend school and complete their education rather than being engaged in labour. Parents were sensitised to their responsibility in safeguarding their children’s future and preventing child labour in all forms.
In addition to child rights awareness, the programme also addressed important environmental and public health issues. Children and parents were educated on the importance of waste segregation at source, including the separation of wet and dry waste, and how proper waste management contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment.
The sessions further focused on the harmful effects of open defecation and the importance of sanitation and personal hygiene. Participants were encouraged to use toilets, maintain hygienic practices, and actively contribute to keeping their communities clean and free from open defecation.
