A special training and motivation programme was conducted recently for Green Friends engaged in solid waste management activities across a cluster of model wards in Rajapalayam, marking World Environment Day which falls on June 6 annually. The programme was organised by Ramco Community Services.
The event brought together Green Friends, field staff involved in waste management, supervisors, and municipal officials, including a sanitary inspector of Rajapalayam Municipality, and supervisors of AVM, a solid waste management agency. The programme aimed to inform, motivate, and guide participants on strengthening waste management practices, promoting source segregation, and maintaining cleanliness in their service areas.
The session highlighted the critical role played by sanitation workers in building a cleaner and healthier community. Through interactive discussions, participants were reminded that their daily efforts directly contribute to environmental protection and the success of the Carbon Neutral Rajapalayam initiative.
Training activities emphasised the importance of effective source segregation at the household level, proper waste handling techniques, safe collection practices, and consistent communication with residents. Participants were encouraged to act as environmental ambassadors by promoting plastic reduction, discouraging littering, and fostering responsible waste disposal habits among the public.
Supervisors also stressed the importance of teamwork, punctuality, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the wards. The programme recognised the invaluable contribution of Green Friends and reinforced the dignity of their work in advancing sustainability goals.
The event concluded with a collective pledge by participants to enhance service quality, uphold cleanliness, and inspire greater community participation in environmental conservation efforts.
